A national centre of expertise dealing with forced marriage is established in The Hague

Publicated on: July 22, 2014

According to the information given by the Hungarian Embassy in The Hague, the Dutch authorities are establishing a centre of expertise that deals with forced marriages. It will start operating in 2015.

Pursuant to the press release published in the Dutch press, many Dutch district governments are facing problems concerning forced marriages, often followed by the threat of honour killings. The victims of these cases are often minors, whose cases can only be solved with the close cooperation of the different authorities (child protection or guardianship authorities, police, prosecutor’s office and representations).

The reason of the centre’s placement in Hague is on the one hand that the city has experiences in fight against forced marriages and domestic violence; on the other hand there are several Ministries and representations there.
