The staff of the Hódmezővásárhely Police Station arrested four persons who had been forcing women into prostitution abroad for years.

There are strong suspicions that a gang has been forcing women into prostitution for several years. Members of the group trafficked a vulnerable woman to Germany and later persuaded several victims to sell their bodies. The victims were robbed of hundreds of millions of forints and the money was regularly taken back to the county of Csongrád-Csanád. An elderly man was also found in the apartment who was suspected of having been forced to work around the house for decades.

On 28 February 2024, the colleagues of the Hódmezővásárhely Police Department, in cooperation with the Csongrád-Csanád Vármegyei Police Headquarters arrested four persons. The police detained a 51-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, against whom they initiated proceedings on suspicion of human trafficking and forced labour, as well as the crime of commercial procuring. A 35-year-old woman is also being prosecuted for commercial procuring and her 49-year-old partner for money laundering, both of whom are also in custody. The court ordered the arrest of all four defendants. In the course of the search, the National Bureau of Investigation seized a number of gold jewellery, money and five high-value cars.
