Connected to the new EU Anti-Trafficking Day (18 October) the Ministry of Interior launches a new Facebook site entitled Anti Human Trafficking Hungary.

The initiative serves several purposes: one of them is informing the 16-26 year old members of the social media site about human trafficking and providing useful and understandable information to them. At the same time our goal is to maintain contact with similar social media sites, in order to represent Hungarian efforts internationally as well as developing public awareness through the online media. On the occasion of the EU Anti-Trafficking Day a thematic governmental site was launched last year in Hungarian and in English. (www.eberkereskedelem.hu and www.thb.kormany.hu) The aim of the site was to provide information and possibility to establish contact. The site proved to be successful in these fields. A special site had to be created especially for those groups that are in danger of becoming victims. The initiators support the Blue Heart Campaign of the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime, hence they use the logo of the campaign.

The Ministry of Interior, as the national coordinating organization of anti-trafficking, considers providing the necessary information to prevent becoming victims and to form public awareness, one of its prioritized tasks. An informative program took place this year at Sziget Festival that managed to reach around 1000 Hungarian and foreign young people. In the previous years several informative campaigns were organized with the aim of preventing becoming victims.

The EU Anti-Trafficking Day was organized for the sixth time this year, on 18 October. The aim of the initiation is to draw attention to the phenomenon of human trafficking, its severity and the role of the citizens in combating it. The most important program usually takes place in Brussels, organized by the European Commission, joined by numerous European countries, including Hungary, with various programs.
