The Office of the Prosecutor General of Hungary brought charges against two men who forced a woman into prostitution in Budapest by deception and threats.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Hungary, the 30-year-old man met a woman under a pseudonym in the first half of 2021, whom he knew had no job, no housing and had previously worked as a prostitute.
He forced the woman to engage in prostitution again, and the proceeds were cut in half. The woman agreed, so the man brought her to Budapest, where he introduced her to another - 27-year-old - man. The two men then, with abuse and threats, forced the woman to work as a prostitute and hand over all the proceeds to them.
In order to maintain their victim's vulnerable position, the defendants took away her documents, she was not allowed to leave the apartments and rented rooms they had assigned to her without their permission, and they imposed details of their services and fees. The woman finally phoned the police in May 2021, after unsuccessfully seeking help from others.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Hungary charged the two men with the crimes of trafficking in human being and forced labour, committed with violence and threats, as accomplices for the purpose of obtaining a regular benefit, for the purpose of performing a sexual act. The prosecutor general's office has recommended that the defendants be sentenced to imprisonment and fines and that they be subject to forfeiture up to the amount of their proven enrichment.
