Police officers detained a man in Fejér County on the well-founded suspicion of forced labor – the perpetrator forced his victims to steal in addition to work
The Criminal Department of the Fejér County Police Headquarters is prosecuting a 26-year-old man from the village of Zámoly for a well-founded suspicion of trafficking in human beings and forced labor.
According to the investigation, the suspect lured the victims to his property and provided them with housing for a rent. Within a short time, he required them to carry out various tasks: sometimes they had to cut down trees, do landscaping work, dismantle cars, take care of shopping, and the victim holding a driver’s license also had to work as a driver on a regular basis. The victims – whose movement was restricted – were not paid for the tasks they performed, and despite their agreement, the owner of the house did not provide them with food on a regular basis. The perpetrator also forced the victims to steal and, if contradicted, assaulted them. Over time, two of them were able to escape the exploitative situation.
As a result of several months of investigative work, enough incriminating information and evidence were collected, based on which the officers of the Fejér County Police detained the perpetrator at his home on 23 February 2021. The man was interrogated for a well-founded suspicion of trafficking in human beings and forced labor to the detriment of several people, detained, and a motion was made for his arrest.
