In 2007, the European Union declared 18 October as the EU Anti-Trafficking Day. The main objective of the European Day is to raise awareness on the prevention and to increase the flow of information and knowledge on trafficking in human beings. In Hungary, several professional days and training sessions have been organised in recent years to enable professionals to share their experiences in the fight against trafficking in human beings.
In order to achieve these objectives, the International Criminal Investigation Department of the National Bureau of Investigation organised a two-day professional conference in Balatonföldvár on 9-10 October 2023.
In order to share experiences, the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Prosecutor General's Office recently held a professional day with the participation of county child protection and labour inspection bodies and NGOs.
In line with the European Day, the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County anti-trafficking coordinators network will meet on 18 October 2023. Around 40 experts, including representatives of the police, victim support services, guardianship and labour authorities, social workers from child protection institutions and hospitals in the county, as well as civil guards, local NGOs and churches, will take part in the meeting in Nyíregyháza.
In addition to law enforcement, awareness-raising and prevention are of paramount importance in the fight against crime, and the National Crime Prevention Council is organising an outdoor exhibition of awareness-raising posters, which will later be housed in the Police Museum.
The consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian war and cooperation with NGOs are important elements in the fight against human trafficking. In this context, a conference entitled "Ukrainian Refugees in the Light of Human Trafficking" will be organised by the Chance for Families 2005 Foundation and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on 25 October 2023 at the Ministry of Interior.
