The men involved in the exploitation and trafficking of women providing sexual services were detained by police in Békéscsaba, Gyomaendrőd, Szarvas, Makó and Sopron. Criminal proceedings were instituted against them on suspicion of trafficking in human beings.

On December 21, 2021, officers of the Békés County Police Headquarters arrested nine men suspected of earning their living by mediating partners for women providing sexual services abroad, and a significant part of the revenue generated was taken from their victims. The arrests took place in Békéscsaba, Gyomaendrőd, Szarvas, Makó and Sopron, with the assistance of the Csongrád-Csanád County Police Headquarters, the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters and the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Police Headquarters.

According to available information, some women who were threatened, abused, and deprived of their liberty by the men engaged in mediation. According to the current data of the investigation, photo advertisements about women were posted through websites, thus mediating and organizing meetings with sexual partners. During the investigation of the men suspected of committing the crimes, the police seized cash, gold jewelry, vehicles, and several properties, including newly built condominium. The Békés County Police Headquarters initiated proceedings against the nine men on suspicion of trafficking in human beings and detained them. In addition, investigators are investigating how many more women the suspects have exploited and how they were persuaded to provide sexual services and give up a portion of their proceeds.
