Several slave owners were caught and arrested in the past month in Hungary.
Two men were forced to work as slaves by a man from Sándorfalva. One of them was enticed in 1998, the other one in 2008. The accused man took away the victims’ documents and pension, and forced them to do physical work under inhuman conditions.
In an other case, the Komárom District Attorney’s Office has pressed charges against a 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, who forced a 63-year-old man to work as a slave for them for months. They took away the man’s documents and beat him regularly. The victim was responsible for all the household tasks and had to take care of the perpetrator’s children as well. After all, the victim could escape and informed the police.
The Court of Appeal in Szeged sentenced a couple from Kétegyháza to 4 years and 4 years 6 months, who enticed a man to work for them in 2002, then made him work as a slave. The perpetrators took away his documents, pension, and forced him to take a loan for them. They did the same with a woman in 2008, but she could luckily escape.
