The male and female members of a family from Szabolcs county were involved in an illegal business that ran 12 women in Switzerland and Germany.

Traffickers forced young victims into prostitution in guesthouses, where they were kept under close supervision. The gang took intimate photographs of the girls and placed sex ads on their behalf. The women were required to hand over at least half of their earnings, but were sometimes only allowed to keep a minimum amount for their daily subsistence. One member of the gang also forced his partner to perform sex work.

In the criminal group, which was organised by family ties, it was the men who persuaded the young victims to engage in sex work. Investigators have so far identified a total of 12 victims who chose prostitution for emotional reasons, expecting a better life in return. However, during their stay abroad, which lasted several months or even years, they were forced to work out of fear.

A total of 50 police officers were involved in international criminal cooperation with the German counterpart. At the offenders addresses seized cash, foreign prostitution work permits, notes, mobile phones and three properties in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. The investigators interrogated the five suspects for the crimes of human trafficking and forced labour, took them into criminal custody and initiated their arrest, which was ordered by the Nyíregyháza District Court.
