New Forms of European Partnership and Cooperation in Combating and Preventing Trafficking in Human Beings

On 6 March 2014 a conference called “New Forms of European Partnership and Cooperation in Combating and Preventing Trafficking in Human Beings” was organised in Brussels by PAYOKE, under the auspices of the European Commission DG Home Affairs in cooperation with the Danube University of Krems and the Centre for European and International Policy Action (CEIPA). The aim of the conference was to evaluate the results of an EC/ISEC co-funded project about trafficking in human beings.

Ms Krisztina Berta, Deputy State Secretary for EU and International Relations, National Anti-Human Trafficking Coordinator, Mr Serge Brammertz, UN Under Secretary General and ICC prosecutor and Ms Myria Vassiliadou, EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator were holding the opening speeches. Ms Yasmine Kherbache, Chief of Cabinet of the Prime Minister welcomed the participants on behalf of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium Mr Elio Di Rupo.

The opening speeches were followed by three panels about victim protection from the perspective of human rights and gender equality, preventing trafficking in human beings by way of public awareness and increased involvement of the health sector, and the role of national and European institutions in forging new partnerships between NGOs, the health sector and the law enforcement.
