Save lives with responsible communication!

Publicated on: April 7, 2015

The Media and Communications Commissioner published on 31 March 2015 a recommendation for the media reports relating to trafficking in human beings and domestic violence.

The recommendation emphasises that special attention shall be paid to the personal rights of the victims and their families. It has to be taken into account that the victims feel in many cases guilty and are afraid to ask for help due to the threat and force of the human traffickers. It is important to realise that the victims have right to assistance and protection even if they were forced to perform minor offences (e.g. illegal work, use of false documents etc.). Victims of trafficking in human beings are provided assistance inter alia by the National Crisis Telephone Information Service (06-80-20-55-20) which can be reached free in a 24/7 schedule.
