Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church organized a conference under the title of “Human trafficking – the state of play in Hungary” in the restored Károlyi-Csekonics Palace.

The Faculty of Social Studies and Health Sciences of Károli Gáspár University – with the professional support of the Ministry of Interior launched the first independent university course on human trafficking in September 2021. From the autumn semester, the phenomenon also receives special attention at Eötvös Loránd University as part of a course related to bullying.

The conference on 30 March was opened by dr. habil. Róbert Szuchy, Vice-Rector for Education and dr. Nóra Jakubovich, Head of Unit for Counter Trafficking and Horizontal Issues of the Ministry of Interior. The event served as a good opportunity for the university teachers to present their initial experiences. Later, lectures by distinguished guests covered the criminological aspects of human trafficking, the sociological researches in this field, the role of the Prosecution Service in the child protection signaling system and, last but not least, the daily work of civil society actors.

Since the National Anti-Trafficking Strategy for 2020–2023 aims to integrate the topic of human trafficking into the curriculum of the higher education of social workers, the ongoing cooperation may be extended to other universities as well in the years to come.
