On the initiative of Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér, a delegation of the United States State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP Office) visited Hungary between 28–30 October 2019 to assess progress on the recommendations of the TIP 2019 report and to provide mutual information.

At the meeting, the Hungarian Minister of Interior emphasized that the fight against trafficking in human beings is of special importance in Hungary, but he also drew the attention of the delegation to the fact that the focus is not only on the monitoring and prosecution of the crime, but rather on prevention, and we support this by many means. Representatives of the TIP Office were also provided with information on law enforcement activities related to trafficking in human beings as well as information on the Hungarian actions taken concerning the 11 recommendations of the TIP report.

Mr. Sándor Pintér said that the government’s goal is to place Hungary in the highest Tier 1 category as soon as possible as a result of a proper evaluation of the steps taken so far and our further efforts.
